Why a Thermal Plant?

Population growth in the world, industrialization and urbanization, and increasing trade as a result of globalization are gradually increasing the demand for energy. The absence of electrical energy, which is the driving force of development, healthy economic growth and modernity, causes great difficulties in production and daily life.

Electrical energy consumption is one of the most important indicators of economic development and social welfare. Electrical energy production and/or consumption per capita in a country is of great importance as it reflects the standard of living in that country. As a rapidly developing and industrializing country, Turkey needs uninterrupted, high-quality, reliable and economical energy now.

The demand for electricity production is increasing rapidly with each new industrial facility and each new user ensuring the development of our country. New and modern power plants need to be established in order to provide the uninterrupted supply of the energy we need.

Why Coal?

Fossil fuels are always the main source of electricity production. Coal has long been used as the most basic energy source among fossil fuels all over the world and will continue to be used. As can be seen from the graph below, the total portion of fossil fuels in electricity generation worldwide as of 2009 is 67.1%. The portion of coal, which is the main source, in this percentage is 40.6%. Despite increasingly stringent emission limit values as a result of heightened environmental awareness, coal still maintains its dominance in electricity generation thanks to the development of clean coal technologies.
